The Palmer College - Doctor of Chiropractic Program

From 2001 to 2008, Yola Dabrowski worked as a chiropractor in San Jose, California. Yola Dabrowski earned her doctorate in chiropractic from the Palmer College of Chiropractic, where she learned about chiropractic care and techniques.

Founded in 1897, the Palmer College is the first chiropractic school - also considered as the largest one - with close to 2,200 students enrolled every year. With campuses located in San Jose, California, Port Orange, Florida, and the main campus on Davenport, Iowa, the Palmer College counts with a state-of-the-art research center that has been granted nearly $30 million the last decade by the federal government.

Palmer College offers a doctorate program that also focuses on advancing chiropractic by promoting learning and clinical training. Considered an intense and graduate-level program, the graduate program has a curriculum that combines theory with hands-on clinical practice.

The courses are related to clinical sciences, chiropractic philosophy, chiropractic techniques, business management, and more. If taking classes on the main campus, students must complete their studies in 10 trimesters and 13 quarters when taking lessons on any of the other two campuses.

A Brief History of the Oboe

With an educational background in biology, chiropractic, functional medicine, and functional neurology, Yola Dabrowski is a health professional with nearly 20 years of chiropractic experience. She also possesses experience in business consulting and has provided project management services to clients in nonprofits, health care, software, and real estate. In her free time, Yola Dabrowski enjoys playing the violin and oboe.

The oboe belongs to a category of instruments known as woodwinds. The oboe’s earliest form, a double-reed instrument known as the aulos, was popular among the Greeks and Romans as far back as 2800 BC.

By the Middle Ages, a more advanced form of the double-reed instrument, known as a shawm, was popular in Europe until the 17th century when the hautbois was developed. The hautbois, the first baroque oboe, made its orchestral debut in France in 1657. Made of boxwood with multiple holes and two or three keys, the hautbois was considerably improved by narrowing the bore, adjusting the reed sizes, and altering the position and diameter of tone holes. The name oboe came into use in the 18th century.

Finding a Place of Peace at The Ashram

Outside of her work in the field of health care, Yola Dabrowski has a number of hobbies and interests. In Calabasas, California, Yola Dabrowski enjoys hiking, especially at The Ashram.

More than just a vacation spot to unwind, The Ashram resort was started in the early 1980s by Swedish health enthusiasts Catharina Hedberg and Anne-Marie Bennstrom. The Ashram (which means “place of peace”) introduced Californians to a regimen that connected nutritious food with physical exercise and nature to create a new type of wellness.

Days at The Ashram begin with yoga in a geodesic dome. Soon after, participants hike along the untouched mountains that abut the Pacific Coast. Later, guests can enjoy fitness classes such as strength training, functional movement, and pool volleyball.

After a day of activity, guests can spend the evening in relaxation, education, or meditation. The Ashram offers daily sports massages, restorative yoga, meditation, and lectures on holistic living.

University of Michigan Helps Residents Prepare for Cataract Surgery

While attending the University of Michigan working towards a bachelor’s in biology, Yola Dabrowski spent two years as a research assistant at the college. In this position at the university's Kellogg Eye Center, Yola Dabrowski helped researchers set up labs, maintain equipment, and perform a host of related activities.

The Kellogg Eye Center is a nationally recognized institution for research and vision care. Recently, the center incorporated a phacoemulsification wet lab for a course to prepare residents for cataract surgery.

The hands-on training program is believed to be an integral step in preparing residents for surgery. The program prepares residents by getting them used to surgical techniques and working in the operating room.

The program offers a variety of courses geared toward residents' specific skill sets. For example, first-year students learn about basic operating room procedures such as putting on a gown and gloves without becoming contaminated.

While getting residents accustomed to the operating room is important, the program also fosters a warm environment that encourages students to interact with staff. Residents are encouraged to approach physicians at any time regarding any questions or concerns they might have.

The Tony Robbins Morning Routine

Former chiropractor Yola Dabrowski has attended Apex Seminars and functional medicine courses at the Carrick Institute for more than a decade. Yola Dabrowski also frequently attends personal development events and entrepreneurship conferences hosted by industry leaders such as Tony Robbins.

An author, motivational speaker, and in-demand performance coach, Tony Robbins is an expert at psychological and cognitive techniques that help people reach their potential. Robbins often touts the importance of a thoughtful morning routine composed of rituals that will set the tone for the day.

Robbins’ morning routine is based on a method known as priming, which refocuses thoughts and emotions on positivity and productivity through specific actions and exercises. For example, meditative breathing first thing in the morning helps relax the body and focus the mind.

Other priming actions include practicing gratitude, eating a nutritious breakfast, and engaging in heart rate-elevating exercises. An entire morning routine may be completed in a few minutes but will have an energizing effect that lasts all day.
