More than just a vacation spot to unwind, The Ashram resort was started in the early 1980s by Swedish health enthusiasts Catharina Hedberg and Anne-Marie Bennstrom. The Ashram (which means “place of peace”) introduced Californians to a regimen that connected nutritious food with physical exercise and nature to create a new type of wellness.
Days at The Ashram begin with yoga in a geodesic dome. Soon after, participants hike along the untouched mountains that abut the Pacific Coast. Later, guests can enjoy fitness classes such as strength training, functional movement, and pool volleyball.
After a day of activity, guests can spend the evening in relaxation, education, or meditation. The Ashram offers daily sports massages, restorative yoga, meditation, and lectures on holistic living.
